New to The Locker Room’s smorgasbord of Basketball potpourri is “The BassLine”, a recurring post containing our favorite “hype-up” songs that prep us for battle. In the locker room-an hour until the tip; defensive schemes and keys encompass the chalkboard, downy-scented away uniforms and shorts get temporary homes on torso’s and legs, roaring headphones smash ear canals to the root; these are those tracks.
Our first installment brings us “Ghetto Dreams”, a Common banger featuring Queens legend Nas, off Common’s recently released The Dreamer/The Believer. Common weaves a deadly 32-bar barrage as Nas taps into his early 2000s Stillmatic-esque cadence, sounding hungry as ever, to dust the track off over a monstrous No I.D. beat.
